Ramsell Corporation CEO Eric Flowers Joins Sutter Health East Bay Board of Directors

Oakland, Calif. – February 11, 2014 – Ramsell today announced that Eric Flowers, chief executive officer of Ramsell, was elected to Sutter Health East Bay’s board of directors. Sutter Health East Bay includes: Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Eden Medical Center, Sutter Delta Medical Center, and Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation. Eric also sits on the Advisory Board of Saint Mary’s College School of Economics and Business Administration and the ADAP Advocacy Association (aaa+), a non-profit that promotes and enhances AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs) and improves access to care for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Are HRSA 340B Audits Keeping You Up At Night?

HRSA’s budget was recently increased from $4.4 million to $10.2 million. The increase in funding is expected to enable HRSA to implement 340B program integrity compliance initiatives.


HRSA plans to conduct risk based and targeted audits of 340B covered entities. Using an audit protocol specific to the 340B Program, the HRSA risk based and targeted audits will involve an in depth review and focused audit of covered entities’ 340B Program operations and compliance.

50th Anniversary of The Apothecary Pharmacy in Oakland, California

Yesterday, January 6, 2014, marked the 50th Anniversary of The Apothecary Pharmacy – which inspired Ramsell’s mission of serving the underserved.

On January 6, 1964, our founder, Sylester Flowers, started the first African-American owned community pharmacy in East Oakland, Calif. during a period when other pharmacies – independent or chain were fearful of venturing into the underserved communities. Syl eventually owned six community-based pharmacies across the Bay Area.

ADAP’s Continued Role Post-Affordable Care Act

With the enactment of the Affordable Care Act and recent launch of the state insurance exchanges, such as Covered California, there have been a number of questions regarding healthcare reform’s impact on federally-mandated healthcare programs, including the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP). Established in 1990 by the Ryan White Care Act, state ADAPs currently provide low-income people with access to life-saving HIV/AIDS treatment. Having managed ADAP programs around the country for more than 20 years, we have witnessed a lot of change and understand the importance of maintaining continuity of care as these programs evolve under healthcare reform. HIV patients that fall out of care can see a rapid advancement of the disease.
